Big Sky's Quietest Stretch Is Early November, Not Late October

Most of the Big Sky closures you already know about are long ones, and they started in September. The more useful fall 2026 dates are the short ones. The coffee counters and dinner rooms that stayed open through October take brief breaks, and those breaks land in the same ten days, from November 1 through November 10. That window is the thinnest part of the offseason for anyone who lives here year-round. Opening day on November 25 doesn't end the quiet stretch for every kitchen in town, either.

The dates below come from the Visit Big Sky Fall Dining Guide, in the version dated October 7. Visit Big Sky asks businesses to report any discrepancies on their listing, so a phone call before you drive over is still the last word on any given night.

The long closures began weeks ago

The season-long closures started before October. Scoops closed September 23 and is listed as closed through November 27. Big Sky Noodles and Michaelangelo's Ristorante both closed September 27. Noodles is listed as closed through December 2 and Michaelangelo's through December 9.

The second wave comes in the last week of October. Ousel and Spur closes October 23 and stays closed through November 1. The Wrap Shack closes the same day and lists its return as mid-November. Alberto's follows on October 24 and is listed as closed through December 4. Out at 320 Ranch, McGill's Restaurant & Saloon lists itself as "Closed for Winter Season" and gives no reopening date. Bunker Deck & Grill at the Big Sky Resort Golf Course is closed for the shoulder season.

Three of those reopening dates come after the resort opens. Alberto's, Big Sky Noodles and Michaelangelo's are all listed as closed into December, so the November 25 opening doesn't bring every Town Center and Meadow Village table back.

Early November, when the short breaks overlap

The places that stay open all fall still close for a week or so, and their breaks fall close together. Ousel and Spur reopens after November 1, which is the same day Cowboy Coffee starts its own break. From there the guide shows a short closure starting almost every day:

Business Fall 2026 break Regular fall hours
Ousel and Spur Closed Oct 23 through Nov 1 Everyday, 5 PM to close
Cowboy Coffee Closed Nov 1 to Nov 7 Everyday, 7 AM to 3 PM, music on Wednesdays
Hero Snow Coffee Closed Nov 2 to Nov 9, then Nov 23 to Nov 29 Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to noon
The Waypoint Closed Nov 3 to Nov 10 Wednesday to Monday, 5 PM to 10 PM
Unravel Coffee at Gravity Haus Closed Nov 9 to Nov 23 Breakfast 7 AM to 11 AM, all-day coffee

Between November 3 and November 7, Cowboy Coffee, Hero Snow Coffee and The Waypoint are all closed together. Alberto's, Noodles, Michaelangelo's, Scoops and The Wrap Shack are still out for the season during the same days. Unravel's break then runs right up to the week of opening. The day after Unravel's listed closure ends, November 23, is also the first day of Hero Snow's second break, which runs through Thanksgiving week.

The kitchens listed every day

These places carry the full stretch. The fall guide lists each of them as open every day:

  • Country Market, Meadow Village Center: 6:30 AM to 8 PM
  • Hungry Moose Market & Deli: 6:30 AM to 9 PM
  • Roxy's Market: 8 AM to 9 PM
  • Cafe 191, in the canyon: 6 AM to 3 PM
  • Beehive Basin Brewery: noon to 10 PM
  • Pinky G's Pizzeria: noon to 8 PM
  • The Rocks Tasting Room: 11 AM to 8 PM
  • Terrain Tacos at Gravity Haus: 11 AM to 10 PM
  • The Riverhouse BBQ: 3 PM to 9 PM
  • Wild Caddis at Rainbow Ranch: 4 PM to 9 PM

The guide lists more places on partial weeks. Block 3 runs Tuesday through Saturday dinners. BYWOM serves Monday through Friday, 11:30 AM to 9 PM. Milkies Pizza & Pub is open weeknights from 4 PM. Thai Basil is open Monday through Saturday from noon, with shorter Sunday hours. Corral Steakhouse is open Tuesday through Sunday. Lone Perk Coffee House runs Monday through Saturday mornings. In the canyon, Buck's serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday, 5 PM to 9 PM. The hotel restaurants up the mountain keep going too. At Montage Big Sky, Alpenglow is listed daily from 11 AM to 10 PM and Beartooth Pub & Rec serves dinner daily with bowling from noon. At One&Only Moonlight Basin, Wildwood serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. The Mi Pueblito Taco Bus is parked in the lot by ACE Hardware seven days a week, with shorter weekend hours.

The calendar fills the gaps the restaurants leave

The community calendar is busiest at the same points where the restaurant schedule is thinnest. The Big Sky Community Organization's Costume Climb runs October 30 from 4 to 6 PM at BASE, with climbing in costume, games and prizes. Two days later, on November 1, the same day Cowboy Coffee starts its break, the Arts Council of Big Sky hosts a free Día de Muertos celebration from noon to 7 PM at Big Sky Center for the Arts, 77 Lone Peak Drive, as part of the Haunted Peaks Fall Festival. The Arts Council is also running free Día de Muertos art workshops on October 8 from 6 to 8 PM and October 10 from 4 to 6 PM. Registration is required. For fall break, the Spooktacular PIR Studio workshop for grades 1 through 5 runs October 15 and 16 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

In mid-November, BSCO's Veteran's Day Breakfast runs November 11 from 8 to 10 AM in the BASE multi-purpose room. That's the morning after The Waypoint's listed break ends and two days after Hero Snow's first break ends. Visit Big Sky also lists a Senior Tech Event at BASE on October 15, from noon to 3 PM.

One overlap is worth a call. Explore Big Sky's calendar lists Wednesday trivia at The Waypoint from 7 to 9 PM, with dates through November 11, including November 4. The dining guide lists The Waypoint as closed November 3 through November 10. The two listings disagree about November 4, so the bar is the one to ask.

Outdoors and getting around in the meantime

BSCO's fall Community Walking Program runs through November 29. Guided walks on local trails and pathways meet Mondays and Fridays at BASE. BSCO lists the Ousel Falls Trail as an easy, year-round, 1.6-mile round trip. The trail isn't groomed and can ice over, and BSCO recommends traction devices or snowshoes once winter conditions arrive. BSCO says most of its trails stay open year-round but can close temporarily for seasonal hazards. It suggests checking each trail's page during the shoulder seasons.

Skyline's fall shoulder schedule runs September 21 through November 22, 2026, with buses seven days a week. Local Big Sky service is zero-fare. The Big Sky–Bozeman Link charges a fare.

Something new also opened ahead of winter. First Tracks Tires opened Big Sky's first hand car wash to the public on August 3, and according to Explore Big Sky, it recycles about 70 percent of its water.

November 25 and the December reopenings

Big Sky Resort opens for the 2026–27 season on November 25. The season's new on-mountain addition is the Explorer Gondola Mid-Station Learning Center, which has its own surface lifts and beginner terrain. The resort's posted operating schedule runs daily through April 11, 2027. The guide lists Cabin Bar & Grill, Scissor Bills and Yeti Dogs at the resort as closed through Tuesday, November 24, the day before the lifts start turning.

After that, the reopenings come one at a time:

  1. After November 27: Scoops' listed closure ends.
  2. After December 2: Big Sky Noodles' listed closure ends.
  3. After December 4: Alberto's listed closure ends.
  4. After December 9: Michaelangelo's Ristorante's listed closure ends.
  5. December 10: M by The Alinea Group returns to the resort for its second winter, running through April 3, 2027.
  6. Mid-December: Montana Dinner Yurt is expected to open.

Iglu Big Sky is also coming back for 2026–27 with a larger footprint and a new staircase from the Explorer Gondola terminal. A full Meadow Village and Town Center lineup comes back in stages through the first half of December, starting with Scoops after November 27 and finishing with the Montana Dinner Yurt in mid-December.
